BYG: Modernisation of IT and cost savings

A partnership forged four years ago. A constant accompaniment of our team so that the client, BYG, continues to maintain its position as a leader in the industrial machinery sector. A need to update its systems so that its internal operation would be in line with the evolution of its global growth.

As Alfredo Hidalgo, IT Manager at BYG, explains:

The collaboration has been primarily aimed at addressing the growing demand for flexible working, born in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the need to ensure reliable and secure remote access in an ever-changing world.

With a national and international presence, BYG is one of the leading companies in the manufacture and distribution of spare parts for public works and mining machinery. In its eagerness for the constant improvement of the product and service, it uses the highest technology in engineering, design and quality guarantees to create the whole range of products of its brands BYG and FUTURA WEAR TECHNOLOGY.

Migrating to the cloud and modernising their systems while reducing infrastructure costs

The pace at which the company was growing and its products were evolving did not match the pace at which its systems and technologies were being upgraded. So they required a balanced pace of growth in all areas of the company.

In an effort to evolve the remote access experience for users and increase the efficiency of business operations, in 2018, BYG chose Teradisk as its primary technology partner to develop a strategy to power its Remote Desktop infrastructure.

After 3 years of use, this partnership has delivered scalable, reliable and adaptable solutions that have adjusted to the changing needs of today’s businesses.

Alfredo Hidalgo, IT Manager of BYG

As an industrial company, BYG uses a collaborative R&D application, which was hosted locally on machines that were becoming obsolete and were not suitable for storing the company’s know-how. So the first challenge was to migrate this application to Teradisk’s cloud, as it was an app that was not designed to work outside the local environment.

The second challenge was to reduce costs in their remote desktop solution, as it was costing them a lot of money. And finally, the third challenge was to clean up the client’s local Data Center, which centralised all the network infrastructure of the company’s different sites.

The guarantees of close collaboration

The project has spread over four years at a pace that has been set jointly by the client and Teradisk, in order to make the transitions as smooth as possible with as few difficulties as possible. The aim was not to do it quickly, but to do it well and to ensure the next steps.

Our expertise as MSP, our knowledge of cloud infrastructures and migrations, and our constant R&D in cybersecurity, have provided the client with the confidence to work side by side, always maintaining a clear and fluid communication in both directions.

Another focus of the collaboration was to strengthen security and optimise the network infrastructure. As a result, the migration of the existing solution was undertaken in order to optimise the operational efficiency of the organisation and to strengthen the defences against today’s ever-evolving cyber threats.

Several major technology projects have also been tackled, such as the migration of Siemens® Teamcenter PLM software from a physical to a virtual environment, in a joint effort between the application’s distributor and Teradisk.

Alfredo Hidalgo, IT Manager of BYG

The synergies that have been created between BYG and Teradisk allow us to continue working together to help the client grow. Our technical team has achieved a perfect level of communication that allows us to meet BYG’s needs on the spot.

Project development and achievements

Teradisk’s first step was to migrate the remote desktop solution to our private cloud. This allowed us to lower costs in such a way that the savings could be invested in the migration of the R&D application, which required close collaboration with the software provider. At the same time, this change improved the remote connectivity of the employees.

Regarding the local DC, both virtual and physical machines were renewed and cleaned up to the maximum, improving connectivity and optimising the DC. With the migration of connectivity between the client’s sites to the Teradisk cloud, a high-level security perimeter was also implemented.

The migration to the cloud, the updating of systems, the optimisation of on-premise elements and the creation of a new generation security environment has meant a technological advance that has exponentially improved the connection between sites and the development of the company’s projects at a global level.
